Safeguarding and privacy
The rules, on one page.
Everything a head teacher or safeguarding lead needs to approve a class taking part in Earthrise:Live on Thursday 19th November 2026.
Class-to-class, not child-to-child
Earthrise:Live connects a whole class with a whole class of a similar age in another country - not individual pupils with each other. The two class teachers set up and run the call together, using their schools' own approved video platform.
Teacher present throughout: your class teacher is there for the whole call. No adult from outside the school ever joins, and no personal data about children is collected by Earthrise:Live.
If something feels wrong
Anyone can report a concern - teachers, parents, or partner-school staff. Use the report-a-concern form, or email safeguarding@earthriselive.org. If a child is at immediate risk, contact your local emergency services first.
What pupils can share
- First names only
- General, non-identifying facts about their class, school or local area
- Favourite things - games, food, subjects, animals - as part of the exchange
What pupils should never share
- Full surnames
- Home address, or any address more specific than a general town or area
- Phone numbers, email addresses or social media handles
- Any other personal contact details
Recording and photos: off unless both schools agree
Recording is switched off by default. It can only be switched on if both schools agree in advance and parental consent is in place. No child's face is published without parental consent. Our parent/carer letter template includes a ready-made consent slip for this.
Your school's policy is always the final word.
Earthrise:Live provides scaffolding, not supervision. For the complete guidance, including a before/during/after checklist, see the full safeguarding page.
