What is it?

Ljubljana is Slovenia's capital city. It's small (about 290,000 people), green, with a river running through the middle and four bronze dragons guarding one of its bridges.

Tell me more

Legend says the hero Jason and the Argonauts killed a dragon here in ancient times - which is why dragons are everywhere in the city's symbols.

The Dragon Bridge was built in 1901 and has four giant bronze dragons watching over it from each corner.

Ljubljana is one of the greenest capital cities in Europe - much of the city centre is closed to cars and full of trees and pavement cafés.
